D. ‘Gene’ Poe

Gene PoeD. “Gene” Poe, 78, Claypool, died at 3:02 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, in Warsaw Meadows Care Center, Warsaw.

He was born in Floyd County, Ky., to Lynn B. and Essie (Marsillett) Poe, on Dec. 19, 1936. He married Dorothy Barrett on May 22, 1959, in Claypool, and lived most of his life in Claypool, working as a farmer and as a machinist at Clausing for 20 years. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. More than anything he enjoyed being outdoors in nature.

Gene is survived by his wife: Dorothy Poe, Claypool; son: Matthew Wayne (Annette) Poe, Claypool; granddaughters: Shelby (Joseph) Miller, Warsaw; Karen Poe, North Manchester; and Britney (Aaron) Howard, Hampton, Iowa; step-granddaughter: Sierra Shafer, North Webster; brothers: Amos (Edna) Poe, Warsaw; Boyd (Shirley) Poe, Burket; sisters: Phyllis (Ronald) Hurley, Warsaw; and Bess (Randy) Ransbottom, Silver Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Mark Poe on July 2, 2004; and granddaughter: Lyndsay Sanchez, on Sept. 29, 2011.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 5, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will begin at noon after visitation, also on Thursday. Pastor William Whitaker, of Warsaw Family Worship Center, Warsaw, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, South Bend.
