Glee Smith, 97, a seven year resident of Claypool, passed April 28, 2018, at Mason Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Sept. 7, 1920, to Sherman E. and Ida (Mohler) Butler in Rifle, Colo. She graduated from high school in Wauneta, Neb. and from Concord College in Athens, W.V. with a Bachelor of Science. For a brief period, she was in the Women’s Army Corp. (W.A.C.)
On Sept. 15, 1945, she was married to Clyde William Smith. Together they shared 53 years and, to their union, three children were born: William Eugene, Carol Elaine and Clyde Robert Smith.
Glee Smith was a retired elementary teacher, having taught for seven years in the rural schools of Nebraska and twenty-four years in West Virginia. She was a Christian who had served her church as the a
ssistant pianist and a choir member for many years. She was blessed with a loving family and church family, with good friends, and with kind neighbors.
In addition to her husband, Clyde Smith, Glee Smith was preceded in death by her oldest son, William Smith; sister, Dorothy Holderman; three brothers: Irvin, Jay and Ivan Butler; half-brother, Leonard Bird; half-sister, Carmen Merrill; step-father, Warren Bird; granddaughter, Jennifer Smith and grandson, John Droke.
Those who survive include son, Clyde Robert Smith of Bradley, W.V; daughter, Carol Elaine (Roy) Droke, Claypool; five grandchildren; four great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Local arrangements were trusted to Titus Funeral Home with funeral services held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 4,in Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, W.V. Visitation will take place there for one hour prior.
