
Jack McKenzie
Jack McKenzie, 84, of Warsaw, passed away at 2:52 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born on Sept. 21, 1939, in Floyd County, Ky., to Joe and Maude (Miller) McKenzie.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Rhue Shriver on Jan. 4, 1957. Phyllis passed away on Nov. 16, 2007.
Jack proudly served in United States Army from 1956 to 1959 as a Signal Corps operator. He served in Germany for 26 months. He worked for Bertsch Vending Co. as a supervisor in the maintenance department.
He enjoyed farming (for more than 50 years), watching NASCAR racing, gardening, carpentry, and he also loved to listen to country music. He started the third generation racing family in 1963 at the Warsaw Speedway. Larry Shriver got him started in racing. His son, Ron McKenzie, followed him and now his grandson, Zeke, is racing to carry on the legacy.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his children, Mike (Von) Shepherd, Silver Lake, Tony McKenzie and Ron McKenzie, both of Claypool, and Cathy (David) Cox, Warsaw; brothers and sisters, Edith (Terry) West, Warsaw, Larry (Sandy) McKenzie, Kansas, Earl (Dee) McKenzie, Warsaw, Erma Brandon, Warsaw, and Ethel (Larry) Stone, Argos; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a special granddaughter, Myra Pagan, who showed loving care and compassion for her grandfather after her grandmother, Phyllis, passed away.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son, Rick McKenzie; daughter-in-law, Hazel McKenzie; and brothers and sisters, Charles McKenzie, Opal Bradley, Oma Curtis, Vada Whitaker and Willie McKenzie.
A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, June 19, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton, with a visitation for family and close friends starting at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool, with military honors by the American Legion Post 258, Pierceton. Pastor William Whitaker will officiate the services.
