Zula Faye Owens, 75, of Claypool, Ind., passed away at 3:36 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in her residence after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on June 9, 1939, in Brethitti County, Ky., to Weldon and Edith (Burton) Minnix. After moving here at the age of 16, she met the love of her life, Edward Owens. They were married Dec. 7, 1957, in Roanoke, Ind. He preceded her in death.
She worked at Chamberlin Products, South Whitley; Whitley Products, Pierceton, Ind., and Lyall Electric, Larwill, Ind. But most of all, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was the “Mother of All”. She enjoyed garage sales and second hand stores where she found most of her hummingbirds and collector plates. She enjoyed sitting on her deck, watching the birds feed on the many feeders and her trumpet bush.
Zula is survived by her daughter: Hazel (Tony) McKenzie, Claypool; her son: Anthony (Kathy) Owens, Warsaw, Ind.; seven grandchildren: A.J., Austin and Michaela McKenzie, Claypool; and Nikkole, Amanda and Bryce Owens, Warsaw; and Brandy Owens, North Webster; a great-granddaughter: Emma McKenzie; three sisters: Freda (Ken) Boggs, South Whitley; Brenda Norris, Boswell, Okla.; Carolyn (Barry) Sapp, Sidney, Ind.; and two brothers: Lowell (Audrey) Minnix and Ralph (Pam) Minnix, both of Pierceton; and two fur babies: Capone and Sissy.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Visitation would be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at the funeral chapel in Pierceton. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 30, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton, with Pastor William Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
