Brent T. Riley — UPDATED

Brent T. Riley, 27, Claypool, passed away at 3 a.m., Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, in Warsaw.  He was born July 11, 1990 in Bryan, Ohio to Tim and Karen (Ensign) Riley.

He worked as a machine operator for Tri-Lakes Container in Pierceton. He was a graduate of Whitko High School.  He enjoyed hunting, music, and relaxing by the bonfire while spending time with his children.

He is survived by two children: daughter, Peighton Riley of Columbia City; son, Praxton Riley of Columbia City; parents, Tim and Karen Riley of Claypool; sister, Britney Riley of Claypool; grandmother, Garnet Riley of Montpelier, Ohio; numerous aunts and uncles; nephew, Landon Riley of Claypool.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation is scheduled from 2-5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.  A funeral service will follow immediately at 5 p.m. with Chaplain Bob Jarboe officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

William “Bill” L. Johnson, 70, of rural Claypool, passed at 2:15 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18, near Claypool in an automobile accident.

He was born on March 26, 1947 in Kosciusko County to Leroy Jud and Rose E. (Miller) Johnson.

He married on March 23, 1968 in Columbus to Carolyn Pletcher, she survives.

Bill was a lab technician at Zimmer Orthopedics retiring after 44 years.

He was a 1965 graduate of Warsaw High School. He was a member of the Warsaw Wesleyan Church and the Silver Lake Wesleyan Church. He taught Sunday School and Bible study at both churches for many years. He loved to golf especially at Raccoon Run Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife: Carolyn; his daughter Heather (Jack) Yell, San Angelo, Texas; his son: Troy (Anita) Johnson, Warsaw; five grandchildren; his special friend, Shane Newsome, Warsaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Rose.

A timie of visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24. at Silver Lake Wesleyan Church, with the service following directly after. Reverend Duane Seitz will officiate.

Betty M. McIntire

Betty M. McIntire, 79, Elkhart, passed away at 3 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 at her son’s residence in Claypool. She was born on Jan. 24, 1938 in Benton Township to Edwin and Mildred (Emerson) Troyer.

She attended Ligonier High School in Ligonier and lived in Topeka before moving to Elkhart 43 years ago. On October 22, 1955, in Topeka she married Glen McIntire who preceded her on Oct. 27, 2015.  She was the owner and operator of Creative Crochet in Elkhart for 24 years before retiring. She enjoyed crocheting, loved to play golf, and loved her cat, Callie.

She is survived by two sons: Barry (Patricia) McIntire, Topeka; Bryon (Ellen) McIntire, Claypool; daughter, Lana Mynhier, Vicksburg, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brother Harold Troyer, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Ralph and Lloyd Troyer.

Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Topeka with Pastor Harold Gingerich of the Eden Worship Center in Topeka officiating.  Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N St. Rd. 15, Warsaw is in charge of arrangements.

Heather Elaine Ross, Claypool, passed away Sept. 26, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. 

Heather was born on Jan. 16, 1972 to Donald and Janet Imel in Portsmouth, Va. On April 4, 2003 she married Thomas Ross in Warsaw. 

She is survived by Thomas and their two sons Andrew and Aaron (Claypool), her parents Donald and Janet Imel, Pierceton, her brother Shawn Imel and his friend Traci Lehman as well as Heather’s Niece Raegan Imel, Fort Wayne, mother-in-law Cheryll Ross, Glenwood, Iowa, brother-in-law Timothy Ross and spouse Ellen, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and sister-in-law Theresa Ross, Omaha, Neb. 

Heather graduated from Homestead High School in Fort Wayne and the University of Evansville before receiving her Master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois. She worked as an exercise physiologist at the KCH Health and Wellness Center, and DePuy.  After the birth of her children she worked as an independent beauty consultant for Mary Kay as well as site coordinator at Claypool Elementary for the YMCA Kids Club program.

Heather’s strong desire to help others led her to be involved in numerous community groups and fundraisers including: Board of Education President for Sacred Heart School, Sacred Heart Church Parish Council, Secretary for the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Tri Kappa, Co-founder and Co-coordinator for the annual “Purses with purpose” fundraiser, Ambassador for the Mary Kay Foundation, Sacred Heart HASA next big event, Kids Market, and Christmas shop for Cure JM.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with a Prayer Service at 7:15 p.m. in the Funeral Chapel. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Warsaw, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, with Father Phillip DeVolder officiating. Interment will be private.

Monroe “Buddy” Shepherd, 72, Claypool, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, in his residence. He was born Dec. 14, 1944 in Prestonsburg, Ky. to Alex and Audie Ellen (Reffitt) Shepherd.

He was a Kosciusko County resident since 1963, formerly of Prestonsburg. He was united in marriage to Ernestine Mae Leedy on Jan. 1, 1975, in Silver Lake. He was a retired Orthopedic Polisher with Symmetry Medical of Warsaw with 35 years of service. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed small engine repair. He was a member of the Sportsman’s Club of Silver Lake and affiliated with Harvest Community Church of Pierceton.

Survivors include his wife Ernestine Mae Shepherd of Claypool, daughter Teresa (spouse Dennis) Crews of Silver Lake, a brother Henry (spouse Toni) Shepherd of Warsaw, sisters Evelene (spouse Joe) Serovy and Martha (spouse Claude) Wallen both of Warsaw and Barb (spouse Larry Robinson of Claypool. He was preceded by his parents, and sisters Margie Crum, Joyce Ann Shepherd, Jenetta Sue Shepherd and Sandra Kay Shepherd.

Visitation hours are scheduled from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 with Pastors Glenn Hall, Lewis Wedstell Shepherd, Hedgel Lee Perry and Terry Bradford officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.

Robert ‘Bob’ L. Warren

Robert “Bob” L. Warren, 90, Claypool, passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2017 at in his residence. He was born on March 1, 1927 to Elva L. and Sylvia (Jenkins) Warren in Claypool.

He was a graduate of Claypool High School in 1945. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946 as a Seaman 1st Class USS Lejuene during the European/African Theater in WWII. After the being honorably discharged from the Navy was joined the family business and later became the co-owner of Warren Brothers Plaster and Drywall. He worked in the family business as the 3rd generation for 48 years.

He was united in marriage on Nov. 18, 1950 to Margaret Kingston in Warsaw, Indiana.

Bob enjoyed bowling, which he became a mmber of the Bowling Hall of Fame, also a member of the America Legion Post # 49 and V.F.W Post # 1126, Warsaw. He played golf until the age of 87.  He was a Claypool Fireman and served as chief for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Marge” Warren, Claypool; two sons, T. Edward “Ed” (Diana) Warren, Claypool and Matthew R. Warren (Sheila), Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Sarah J. (Ster) Watkins, Warsaw and Paula J. (Roger) Gall, Claypool; nine grandchildren, Aaron Taylor, Seattle, Wash., Amanda (Cory) Glowe, Lafayette, Margaret Warren, Claypool, Christy Barnett, Monroe, Ga., Laura (John) Dowdle, Jacksonville, Fla., Wendy (Nick) Comer, Tipton, Indiana, Jacob and Adam Gall, Warsaw and Maggie Watkins, Warsaw; six great grandchildren, Andrea Barrnett, Braxton and Cooper Dowdle, Makenna and Macie Comer, Zaidden Gall and a great grandson due in December and a sister-in-law Janet Warren. Also surviving is a nephew, Jack (Kerri)Warren; nieces Jill (Joe) Thallemer and Judi  Warren and several other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Layne Warren a grandson, Bryan Taylor.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Chaplain Bob Jarboe officiating. There will be Military Honors by the Navy Honor Guard, American Legion Post # 49 and the V.F.W Post 1126.

A Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. to the time of the service.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool at a later date.

Ronald L. “Ron” Ozier, 77, Claypool, passed away at 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at his residence. He was born Oct. 12, 1940 in Greenup, Ill. to Leo and Sylvia May (Carr) Ozier.

He gradated in 1957 from New Berlin High School in New Berlin, Ill. and attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He obtained his Masters degree from Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo. He was married on Nov. 14, 1997 in Buffalo Grove, Ill. to Linda L. Gutermuth who survives. He was a Pastor in various United Methodist Churches throughout Indiana, Illinois, Idaho, and Iowa and retired after over 30 years of ministry from the Methodist Church in 1997.  He was a co-founder of the Isaiah 11 Ministry in Warsaw and was a United States Coast Guard veteran.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters: Veronica (Joe Ted) Edwards, Sharon (Rick) Ellis and Penelope (Eric) Last; step-son: Jay (Kristen Britton) Iverson; adopted son, Bryan Ozier; adult foster son, Larry Mathis; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; brother, James (Suzanne) Ozier, Irvington, Texas; four sisters: Jane (Bob) Vineck of Atlanta, Mich.; Joyce (Tony) Manci of Williamsville, Ill.; Norma (Woody) Boughter and Susan Greenfield both of Springfield, Ill. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Teubner and Marty Ozier, and three infant children.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw, IN. The family will hold a Celebration of Life gathering at a later date.

Patricia A. Deardorff, 86, rural Claypool and formerly of Akron, passed at 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 at her son’s residence in rural Claypool.

She was born on Nov. 5, 1930 in Howard County to Virgil R. and Aliene (Dotson) Hawkins.

She married on Oct. 24, 1948 in Russiaville to Roger L Deardorff, he survives.

Pat was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Russiaville High School in 1948. She and her husband operated a dairy farm west of Akron until 1986. After selling the farm they moved east of Akron. They made their home since 2013 north of Claypool. She enjoyed antiquing, baking, and gardening. She also enjoyed her time wintering in Sebring, Fla. She always cherished her family.

She is survived by her sons: Michael (Pat) Deardorff, Overland Park, Kan.; Dr. Kerrick (Melanie) Deardorff, Claypool; Kevin (Amy) Deardorff, Claypool; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Aliene; and a sister, Jeaneen Waddell.
The funeral services will be private. She will be buried at Akron Cemetery.

Phyllis A. Walser, 74, Claypool, passed away at 7:35 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, in Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.  She was born Oct. 13, 1943 in Kokomo to Raymond and Annabelle (Porter) Conklin.

She was a Kosciusko County resident for the past 6 years and is formally of Avon and Cicero. She was a self-employed childcare provider and also a former bank teller for Society and Key Bank in Cicero. 

She is survived by sons: Gerald R. (spouse Nancy “Angel”) Walser, Claypool; Kay D. Walser, Indianapolis; Brian T. Walser, Cicero; and Robert T. (spouse Tracey) Walser, Anderson; sister: Joyce E. Conklin, Speedway; brother: Kenny (spouse Cindy) Conklin, Spencer; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in Rockfield (IOOF) Cemetery, Rockfieldwith Rev. Ed Selvidge officiating. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements.

Eugene Manns

Eugene “Gene” Manns, 88, Claypool, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:08 a.m., Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Warsaw Meadows Care Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 27, 1929, in McGuffey, Ohio, to Dorton and Dollie Manns. He married Geraldine “Gerry” Miller on May 10, 1949, in Magoffin County, Ky. She survives.

Eugene lived as a farmer and also was employed as a bus driver for Warsaw Community Schools for 20 years. He ran Shady Brook Stables in Warsaw for six years and also worked for Claypool Elevator. He was a member of Living Hope Ministries in Warsaw and the Sportsman and Farmers Conservation Club in Silver Lake.

Gene was an avid coon hunter and horseman. He was guided by his strong faith in Jesus Christ, and had a genuine compassion for the souls of his friends and family.

In addition to his wife Gerry, he is survived by his children: Diana (Dennis) Yoder, of Warsaw; Janet (Ronnie) Patrick, of Claypool; and Ronald Manns of Akron.; one brother, Mitchell of Claypool; three sisters: Grace Azbell of North Manchester; Becky (Duane) Spangle of Claypool and Della (Lamoine) Leckrone of Warsaw; sister-in-law, Irene Manns of Warsaw. Also surviving are six grandchildren Stephanie (James) Billings of Alabaster, Ala.; Gina (Jeffery) Hofferth of Claypool; Stacy (James) Nicely of Akron; Angela (Aaron) Robbins of Pierceton; Jackie Peters of Rochester; Rebecca (Charley) Mitchell of Elkhart; and Veronica Eherenman of Akron; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Ann; and brothers Russell, Edward, Dayton, and Ortie.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 24 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home. The Reverend Lewis Wedstel Shepherd will officiate. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near North Manchester.

Lula June Scott, 90, Claypool, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018.

She was born to the late Edward and Edna Ragon on Jan. 21, 1927 in Lawrenceville, Ill. She married the late Estel “Ike” C. Scott, a U.S. Army and WWII veteran, in 1946, and they lived most of their lives in the Burket-Claypool area.

Scott, who went by “June,” enjoyed fishing and loved to cook and bake with her dog, Ladybug, at her feet. Her true passion in life was her family, who feel truly blessed and honored to have known June as an enduring model of faith, love, kindness and sacrifice. Her whimsical, cheeky spirit brought immeasurable joy and laughter to her family.

Scott is survived by three sons, Ronald E. (Karen) Scott, Sr., Tippecanoe; Donald L. (Linda) Scott, Sr., Claypool; and Thomas D. (Janet) Scott, Knoxville, Tenn. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She had 12 siblings and is survived by a brother, Luther Ragon, Michigan City; and sisters: Bertha Griffith, Hammond; Margaret Ann Parsons, Huntsville, Ala.; and Mary Katherine, Noblesville.

A memorial service to celebrate June’s life will be held on her birthday at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 21, at Cook’s Chapel, where she attended. A meal provided by Cook’s Chapel and visitation with family will immediately follow.

June will be laid to rest at the Palestine cemetery in a private ceremony.

Virginia P. Linn

Virginia P. Linn, 94, Claypool, passed away at 4:39 p.m., Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. She was born to John and Ruth (Cole) Rider Dec. 16, 1923, in Kosciusko County.

She was united in marriage to Ralph Linn Oct. 26, 1946, in Winona Lake. He preceded her Aug. 24, 1978. She was a graduate of Silver Lake High School and 69-year resident of Claypool. Linn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #258, Pierceton. She attained 20 years of service with Warsaw Coil retiring in 1987, where she served as an assembler.

Survivors include her son, Billy (spouse Georgette) Linn, Claypool; grandchildren: Jeffrey (spouse Beth) Hoover, Warsaw; Angela (spouse Robert) Dwyer, Chicago; Christa (spouse John) Wiese and James (spouse Amber Linn, both of Fort Wayne; and Tylette (spouse Kevin) Watmough, Pierceton. Furthermore, great grandchildren Haley and Jessica Hoover, Catherine and Alison Wiese and Eryn, Cameron and Audrey Watmough survive.

In addition to her husband, a daughter, Patty Jo Sellers preceded on Oct. 9, 2008, and brothers, Wayne and Robert Rider preceded her.

Calling hours are scheduled from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton with a Funeral Service immediately following at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Pastor Bill Wood will officiate the services. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.

Jeffery D. Flora, 53, Claypool, passed away at 4:04 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018 in Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born May 16, 1964, in Lafayette to Dennis E. and Julia A. (Kinzie) Flora. On March 16, 1991, he married Sarah K. Stambaugh.

Flora was a truck driver for Rumble Transport, Bradford, Ohio. He was a member of Old German Baptist Brethren New Conference Church, North Manchester.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah K. Flora, Claypool; parents: Dennis E. and Julia A. Flora, Peru; daughters: Alaina K. Flora, Claypool; and Marillis R. Flora, Claypool; father and mother-in-law, Dale and Vivian Stambaugh, Silver Lake; brother, Brian E. and Kim S. Flora, Peru; sister, Lisa M. and Kevin L. Long, North Manchester; sisters-in-law, Deborah D. (Bill) Sisk, Tennesee; and Dinah L. (Dwight) Dutter, Silver Lake.

Family and friends may call from noon-5 p.m., and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 8, at Old German Baptist Brethren New Conference Church, 1013 SR 114 W, North Manchester, (one mile West of SR 13 & 114 intersection). Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 9, at Old German Baptist Brethren Church, 12508 N SR 13, North Manchester. Church Brethren will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
