David M. Morgan

David M. Morgan, 68, of Claypool passed away on Oct. 3, 2018, at 1:50 p.m. in his residence.

David M. Morgan

On Oct. 15, 1949, he was born in Onieda, New York to Donald and Icy Mae (Ackley) Morgan. On Sept. 11, 1970, he was united in marriage to Roslynn A. “Roz” Wagner in San Antonio, Texas.

He attended Perry High School in Perry, New York and then Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne where he earned a degree in Automotive Engineering.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1971 where he earned the Rank of Sergeant E-5 as a Medic during the Vietnam Era.

He worked maintenance for Our Fathers House in Warsaw for 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49 in Warsaw.

He is survived by his wife Roslynn “Roz” and son David D. Morgan of Claypool. He is further survived by his sisters; Marie Morgan of Warsaw, Gladys Morelli of Rochester, New York, Christine Morgan of Rochester, New York, Debbie Vallejo of Warsaw, Madeline Collins of Rochester, New York and Peggy Morgan of Warsaw. Also surviving are his granddaughters; Ashley Christine Brandon of Leesburg and Lindsey Nicole Morgan of Warsaw.

He was preceded by his parents and a brother; Averil Morgan.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw with Ken Locke officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. Post #1126.

Ronald ‘Ron’ Leiter

Ronald “Ron” Leiter, 78, Plymouth, passed away at 5:42 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, in Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.  He was born in Kosciusko County on July 21, 1940, to LeRoy and Willodean (Brown) Leiter.

He lived most of his life in Claypool and recently in Plymouth. On Aug. 30, 1986, he was united in marriage to Arlene Cook in South Whitley. He attended Claypool School from Elementary School thru High School. He also received a Surveyor Certification from Purdue for his position at the Kosciusko County Highway Department; where he worked as an Assistant Engineer for 33 years before retiring. He attended Crossroads Church in Plymouth as well as First Freewill Baptist Church, Claypool. In addition, he loved playing Euchre, enjoyed NASCAR, basketball, his stereo, record and album collection and country music; especially Elvis and Glen Campbell.  He loved his family dearly.

Ron Leiter is survived by his wife: Arlene Leiter of Plymouth; children: Steve (Tina) Leiter of Nevada; Angie (Rick) Stewart of Claypool; step-daughters: Deanna (York) Young of Fort Wayne; Cyndi (Ty) Slabaugh of Middlebury; and Tonya (Mike) May of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers: Jim (Sereta) Leiter of Arizona; Ted (Karen) Leiter of Akron; several nieces and a nephew also survive.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Shari Leiter, and a brother; Pete Leiter.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the funeral home. Pastor Terry Bradford will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.

Noble Leon Rohrer

Noble Leon Rohrer, everyone knew him simply as Leon, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at his residence in the Claypool district, at the age of 81.

He was born Jan. 22, 1937, in Kosciusko County, to Noble Ralph Rohrer and Al Myra C. (Scott) Rohrer.  On March 30, 1986, he was married to Susan Darlene (Banter) Rohrer, who survives.

He was a lifetime area resident of Kosciusko County and was a 1955 graduate of Burket High School.  He was never afraid of a hard day’s work. He kept busy as a dairy farmer, as well as working in the maintenance department of Grace Village Retirement Community of Winona Lake, Mason’s Health and Rehab of Warsaw, and Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw.  He was a member of Kemrad police auxiliary, and the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA).  He will be dearly missed by countless friends, but most of all he will be forever loved by his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Susan Darlene Rohrer, Claypool; two sons: Michael (Lily) Rohrer, Rochester; Jeffrey (Melanie) Rohrer, Claypool; two step-sons: Wesley (Mary Kittrell) Gearheart, Warsaw; Dustin Gearheart, Warsaw; sister: Linda (Dave) Lock, Fort Wayne; also his first wife Lois Karen McCourt, Claypool; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Rita Sabo, one sister Janice Method, one brother Larry  and two grandchildren

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Oct. 19, at Pathway Church, 2402 Old US 30 West, Warsaw, officiated by Reverend Michael Rohrer.  Burial will follow with a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery of Claypool.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Christian Motorcyclist Association 2862 S. 400 E., Pierceton, IN 46562 and may be left at the funeral home or the church and would be appreciated by the family.

William “Bill” Elliott

William Elliott, known to most as “Bill,” passed away at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 1:32 a.m. He was 78 years old and a resident of rural Sidney.

Born on Feb. 24, 1940, in West Prestonsburg, Ky., he was the son of Orval and Mary Belle (Stephens) Elliott. He was one of seven children raised in the Elliott family home. The family moved to Kosciusko County when Mr. Elliott was 15 years old.

On July 16, 1974, he was married to Dorothy L. Cremeens in Virginia. Their friendship turned romance lasted for nearly 50 years before Dorothy’s 2016 passing. Together they shared five children, 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

He worked as a machinist for Dana-Weatherhead, retiring in 1994. Although retired, he had farmed throughout his life; he raised everything from traditional livestock to quail, peacocks and other exotic animals. He was known for his love of auctions and swap meets. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially if it was to watch his grandchildren play.

Ornery and kind at the same time, he could tease someone and selflessly help them simultaneously. He was a good friend, a hard worker and a kind person who never knew a stranger.

Those who survive with memories to treasure include his five children: Tari Sue (Patrick) Blocher, Warsaw; Brian (Melissa) Grindle, Oswego; William (Tana) Elliott, Jr., Claypool; Bobbi (Jerry) Wood, Milford; and Amy (Charles) Bradley, Claypool; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and three siblings: Anna Blair, Warsaw; James (Glenda) Elliott, Silver Lake; and Tom Elliott, Hoffman Lake. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by brothers: John Elliott (2013) and Henry Elliott (2012) and by a sister, Linda Justice (2017).

Friends will join together for visitation on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 Sheridan St., Warsaw, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. William Whitaker of Warsaw Family Worship Center, will take place on Wednesday in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Sidney Cemetery.

Eula M. Manns, 77, Claypool, passed away at 2:35 p.m. on Nov. 14, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. She was born on Aug. 4, 1941, in Prestonsburg, Ky. to Johnny & Mary (Adams) Owens.

She attended public schools in Burket and lived most of her life in the Warsaw and Claypool area. She was married on March 21, 1959, in Silver Lake to George Manns who preceded her on Aug. 11, 2015. She retired from Midwest Spring Stamping in Mentone and formerly worked at Warsaw Plating for 20+ years.

She is survived by two sons Shawn (Karen) Manns of Lancaster, S.C. and Joe “David” (Lechia) Manns of Claypool; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three sisters Alice Brown of Claypool, Beulah (Willard) Yates of Claypool, Madie Camel of Mt. Gillian, Ohio; two brothers Johnnie (Helen) Owens of Mentone and Orval Owens of Warsaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Faye Frances and four brothers Lynn, Virgil, Burl and Curtis Owens.

No public services will be held per Manns’ wishes. Cremation Services of Kosciusko County is in charge of all arrangements.

Jake Bradley

Jake Bradley, 75, Claypool, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 12:29 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018. He passed away surrounded by his family.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1943, in Prestonsburg, Ky. to Phoebe (Hyden) Bradley and Jake Bradley, Sr.  On Nov. 27, 1968, he was married to Mary Lou (Shepherd) Bradley, who survives.

He was a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 50 years and had worked for 38 years at Par-Kan Industries in Silver Lake, as a welder. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Kosciusko County in Claypool, had a love of farming, hunting and being outdoors. He had an even greater love for God, his “Queen,” as he affectionately called his wife Mary, his girls and his grandchildren. Which he very much enjoyed teasing. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou Bradley, Claypool; three daughters: Lachelle (Matt) Alexander, Claypool; Susan (Bernard) Manns, Silver Lake; Janelle (Daron) Norris, Mentone; and five grandchildren: Joshua, Seth, Elizabeth, Dawson and Jordan. Also surviving are three brothers:  Frank Bradley, Prestonsburg, Ky.; Jim (Sue) Bradley, Prestonsburg, Ky.; Loren (Ruby) Bradley, Silver Lake; three sisters: Alvie Hackworth, David, Ky.; Phylis Bolen, Allen, Ky.; and Dorothy (Bethel) Bolen, Prestonsburg, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation will be held at First Free Will Baptist Church of Kosciusko County, 58 W. 700 S., Claypool, from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29. His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. at the church on Friday, Nov. 30, and officiated by Pastor Terry Bradford. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery in Silver Lake. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Arminia Patrick

Arminia Patrick, of Claypool, went home to be with the Lord at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City at the age of 86. 

She was born on January 19, 1932, in Floyd County, Kentucky to Emery Leroy Williams and Lillie (Hall) Williams. On Dec. 23, 1950, she was married to Jack Patrick.  he shared 58 years of marriage before he passed away on January 18, 2009. 

Patrick was a lifetime homemaker and member of New Beginnings Church and World Outreach in Warsaw. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all.

She will be lovingly remembered by her seven sons Dannie Patrick, Leesburg; Ronnie (wife Janet) Patrick, Claypool; Larry Joe (wife Rhonda) Patrick, Warsaw; Jimmy Ray (wife Edwina) Patrick, Tennessee; Billy (wife Susan) Patrick, Akron; Steven (wife Lorrie) Patrick, Florida; Morris (wife Deadra) Patrick, Sidney; daughter Virginia Kay (husband Jessie) Rivera, Warsaw; 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw,

Her funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by her son, Pastor Ronnie Patrick. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Pierceton.    


Linda G. Jude

Linda G. Jude, 71, Claypool, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at 7:41 a.m. in her sister’s home, Silver Lake.

She was born on Nov. 14, 1947, to Norman and Leona (Rule) Denney in Warsaw.

She graduated from Warsaw High School, Class of 1966.

She was united in marriage to Johnny Jude on Jan. 23, 1978. in Wayne, W. Va. Johnny passed away on June 12, 2018.

She retired from Maple Leaf Farms after 27 1/2 years of employment. She was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, feeding the birds and she was an avid collector of special glass figurines.

She is survived by his sister, Rhonda (Ronald) Gronau of Silver Lake; a brother, Randy (Sally) Denney of Warsaw; sister- in-laws, Geraldine, Loretta, Wanda, and Madeline; a brother-in-law, “Bill”; several nieces, nephews and cousins; all though Linda and Johnny never had any children of their own, their children were their beloved dogs, Jade and Jolene who they adored. She is preceded by her parents and husband.

Services will be private.

George Willard Yates

George Willard Yates

George Willard Yates, Claypool, passed away surrounded by family at 5:25 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at his residence at the age of 77.

He was born on Oct. 12, 1941, in Bonanza, Ky., to Elzira (Marshall) Yates and Edward “Eddie” Yates.  On April 16, 1960 he was married to Beulah Marie (Owens) Yates, who survives.

He was a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 71 years, where he was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County in Claypool, Indiana.  He was never afraid of a hard day’s work. He worked as a maintenance worker for 12 years at Kosciusko Community Hospital and for 12 years for Warsaw Community Schools.  One of his favorite things to do was to work on antique cars, but most of all he loved his family and grandchildren dearly and will be forever loved.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Beulah Marie Yates, Claypool; three sons: Willard (Angel) Yates, Arizona; Vincent E. (Clara) Yates, North Carolina; Greg (Kathy) Yates, Warsaw; one daughter: Lorraine (Jerry) Brown, South Whitley; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  He also leaves behind two sisters:  Wilma (Bev) Richardson, Warsaw; Phyllis (Gary) Beane, Bremen; two brothers:  Bill (Judy) Yates, Akron; and Ron (Kim) Yates, Claypool.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

His funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, at First Free Will Baptist Church of Kosciusko County, 58 W. 700 S. (700 South and County Farm Road) Claypool, and officiated by Pastor Terry Bradford.  Burial will follow with a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool.  Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Tyler Prater

Tyler Prater, 21, Claypool passed away at 6:45 p.m., Dec. 23, 2018, in his residence.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1997, in Warsaw to Terry D. and April K. (Harrison) Prater.

A lifetime Kosciusko County resident he worked for Precision Grinding as a Sharpener. He enjoyed music, was an avid Notre Dame fan, loved video gaming, was known as a leader, also he had a niece and a nephew who were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his mother, April Hurd of South Whitley; his father Terry Prater of Claypool; his brother, Braxton Prater of Warsaw; sister, Kaitlin Prater, Warsaw; his grandparents Marcus and Brenda Prater, Claypool and a friend Crystal Thornsberry, Warsaw. He is also survived by his niece, Kinzleigh Howard and nephew, Karston Prater both of Warsaw.

He was preceded by his grandmother, Cindy Bolin. (June 17, 2018)

A visitation will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw. A funeral service will be held immediately following at noon, also at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Pastor Ward “Etsie” Allen officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Pierceton.

Donald R. Lister

Donald R. Lister, 79, of Claypool, passed on to his heavenly home on Jan. 4, 2019, at Parkview Randallia, Fort Wayne. He was born Nov. 23, 1939, in Chester, Ill. to Earl and Lillian (Winkleman) Lister. He grew up in Rolla, Mo. moving later to Indiana where he met and married Merdena Tucker on Nov. 7, 1964. She survives.

Donald R. Lister

He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. He was employed in Warsaw at Union Tool, retiring from Little Crow Foods in 2003. He enjoyed watching humming birds, old westerns, NASCAR, and his beloved cat, Smokie.

He is survived by his wife, Merdena Lister, Claypool; his son: Neil(Michelle) Lister of Claypool, and also four brothers and two sisters.

His parents preceded him, along with four sisters.

There will be no calling prior to the service. A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. Burial will be held at Ulrey Memorial Cemetery following the service. Pastor Jamy Gregory will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary.

Dr. James J. Bohlin

Dr. James J. Bohlin died at home in Claypool after a brief illness May 14, 2021. He was 86 years old.

Jim was born March 10, 1935, in Michigan City, to James D Bohlin and Mildred Eileen (Jensen) Bohlin. Jim graduated from Indiana University earning his DDS. He had a successful practice on Husky Trail moving from East Winona Avenue after several years.

He served in the United States Air Force and with the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Jim was honored as a founding member of the Department of Homeland Security in 2003 and the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2016 while serving in the Coast Guard Auxilliary. Jim enjoyed fishing, volunteering at the North Webster and Warsaw American Legion posts, spending time at the North Webster Senior Center.

Jim leaves behind  his children, James S. (Megan) of Fairborn, Ohio; Dr. Michael D. (Lisa) Bohlin of West Lafayette; Catherine Germain of Union Mills; and Jeffrey T (Katrina) Bohlin of LaPorte; son-in-law, Mark Brumblow of Claypool; grandchildren: Jay and Jon Bohlin of Tuscan, Ariz.; Alyssa Bohlin of Fairborn, Ohio; Benjamin and Holly Bohlin of West Lafayette; Samantha Bohlin of Bloomington; Christopher (Katie) Bohlin of LaPorte; Cheyenne Germain of LaPorte; Jeffrey M. Bohlin of LaPorte; Jesse Bohlin of Tacoma, Wash.; and Austin Bohlin of West Lafayette; Elizabeth and Marcus Brumblow (Nicole Schooley) of Claypool; Devan Morton of South Whitley; four great-grandchildren; siblings: Dr. Charles (Charlotte) Bohlin of Pender, Neb.; and Linda N. Smith of Palatine, Ill.; as well as nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Jim is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, Warsaw with the Reverend Dr. Michael Chester, BCC officiating. A graveside burial ceremony will follow immediately at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors rendered by American Legion Post #49 and North Webster American Legion Post 253.

Linda Diane Smith

Linda Diane Smith

Linda Diane Smith, 73, rural Claypool, passed away quietly at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne at 2:58 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021.

The daughter of Murray and Vivian (Barnhart) Keirn, Linda was born in South Whitley and spent her formative years there. She was previously employed by Gatke Corporation and was a longtime employee of Warsaw Walmart where she managed the shoe department.

Linda loved animals of all kinds and especially watching the birds. She enjoyed flowers, fishing and visiting various state parks, especially Turkey Run. Truly, she enjoyed most anything outdoors. She was strong willed and independent but also very caring and loving.

On Aug. 3, 2004 Linda and Steven Smith were married, blending two families into one. Steven survives at home. Also surviving are two daughters, Diane (Jeff) Hathaway of Silver Lake; and April (Jeremy) Fisher of Warsaw; stepson, Michael (Deb) Smith of New Paris; stepdaughter, Melody (Sam) Hedington of Claypool; stepson, Troy (Deb) Smith of Winona Lake; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Phil (Jeanne) Keirn and Tom (Liz) Keirn and sister, Judy Brunner. She was preceded in passing by her parents.

Warsaw’s Titus Funeral Home is entrusted with Linda’s care. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with a memorial service in the planning stages for the near future.

Steven Waters

Steven “Steve” Roy Waters, 56, Claypool, passed away unexpectedly and went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 in Kenilworth, Ill.

He was born Feb. 19, 1965, in McHenry, Ill., one of five children of Diane Kathryn (Heimerl) Waters and Terrence Willis Waters. When he was in eighth grade he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with a young lady by the name of Evelyn Alice Morrowhom. They were married Sept. 25, 1987. They shared the joy and blessings of raising six sons and one daughter together within the 33 years of marriage they were given with before he passed.

Steve graduated in 1983 from Wauconda High School in Wauconda, Ill. and has made his home in Kosciusko County, for the past six years. He started working with his father as a drywaller and later in life he started his own business as a sub-contactor in the residential field. The Water’s family owned and operated the Claypool Kennels, grooming and handling show dogs. He enjoyed life to the fullest, whether he was spending a day on the lake fishing, playing a game of chess with his family or friends, or traveling around the country attending dog shows. Wherever he went his life was always a witness of his close relationship with Jesus. Steve served God wholeheartedly and was both a leader and a pillar for his family. He showed the love of Christ even in the small things in life. Steve was a faithful father, a loving husband, a friend to many and a blessing to all. He will be forever loved and dearly missed but he would most want to be remembered for his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Evelyn “Evie” Alice Waters, Claypool; daughter: Ashely Waters, Claypool; and his six sons: Nick (Candice) Waters, Warsaw; Jason Waters, Union; Micah Waters, Fort Wayne; Jordan, Jacob and Luke Waters, all of Claypool. He also leaves behind his brother: Roy Waters; and three sisters: Lorie Candir, Penny Wilkosz, and Ruth Waters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw, and will be officiated by his son, Nick Waters. Friends and family are invited to share some time to visit prior to the graveside service from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Chris Slone

Christopher “Chris” D. Slone, 40, Wabash, passed away at 3:01 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.

He was born Aug. 27, 1980, in Warsaw, to Marcella Jane Manns and Lonnie Edward Slone. On Sept. 20, 2013, he was married to Jennifer Lynn (Petruska) Slone.

Chris was a 1999 graduate of Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw. He worked as a HVAC installer for several companies in the Warsaw area. He had a great personality and never took things too seriously. He enjoyed attending and watching his kids play games, playing xBox whenever he could, and everyone knew that Chris loved fireworks. He had a heart for helping others and gave to people in need. Chris was excited to remodel his home, he was a great cook and loved trying out new recipes. He loved his friends, his two dogs and even his cat. Most of all, Chris loved his “Little Jenny Slone”, his children, and fiercely loved his family. He will be dearly missed and forever loved.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Jennifer Slone, Wabash; two sons: Lance and Gage Slone; father: Lonnie (Belinda) Slone, Clunette; and his mother: Marcella Manns, Claypool.  Also surviving are two brothers: Jeremie (Stephanie) Slone, Winona Lake; Toran Savant, Claypool; and his sister: Tara Schoettmer, Claypool. He was preceded in death by his son, Noah Edward Slone.

Chris’ life will be celebrated privately by his family on Friday, June 25, and he will be laid to rest at Akron Cemetery, Akron. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Charles Sterk

Charles Sterk, 85, of rural Claypool, and formerly of Akron passed at 1 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his residence.

Charles was born on Sept. 10, 1935, in Cook County, Ill. to the late Cornelius H. and Winnie (Kelderhouse) Sterk. He married on Oct. 22, 1955, in the Burton Church of Rochester to Margaret Rose Johnson. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2005. Charles then married on Aug. 12, 2006, in the Eel River Church of Silver Lake to Marilyn Sue Drudge, she survives.

He was a 1954 graduate of Akron High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and was then honorably discharged. In earlier years he worked for Peabody Seating Company and Chamberlain’s. He retired after 38 years with Singer (Eaton) Controls of North Manchester in 1997, where he was a Production Control Analyst. He was also known to assist on farms in the area, especially for George Sheets,Tucker Farms, and Wise Farms. He also trimmed hedges in the Akron area for many years.

Charles was a member of the Akron United Methodist Church, where he served on many boards. He served his community on the Akron Town Board for two terms. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #36. He was a lifetime fisherman and loved to maintain his property. He enjoyed traveling and made yearly trips to Minnesota camping with friends and family as well as to Florida.

Charles is survived by his wife Marilyn Sue Sterk of Claypool; daughters: Deborah and husband Mark Wise of Claypool; and Lisa and husband Chad Tucker of Mentone; a son, Charles Alan and wife Sally Sterk of King, N.C.; grandchildren: Mariah and husband Matt Roberts, Amanda and husband Cody Hudson, Charles Dean and wife Chrissie Sterk, Charles Matthew Tucker, and Bethany and husband Cameron Beron; six great grandsons Trevor, Jay, Brayden, Nolan, Garrett, and Clavin (CJ); and one great-granddaughter: Baby B on the way; sisters: Margaret Tromp, Schererville, Bernice and husband Paul Brown, Akron; Wilma Belsan, Brookfield, Ill.; and Cornelia Moore, Akron; brothers: Robert and wife Sharon Sterk, Sevierville, Tenn., Bert and wife Theressa Sterk, Akron; and Lee and wife Leta Sterk, Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, brothers John, Herman and Richard Sterk; and sisters Nellie Mosher, Carrie Koster, Dorothy Sterk, and Nancy Sterk.

The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 29, at the Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, with Pastor David Eaton and Pastor Phil Pratt officiating.

The interment will take place in the Akron Cemetery, Akron, with graveside military rites performed by the Fulton County Honor Guard.

Visitation hours will be from 3-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Fund or the Akron United Methodist Church.
