Margaret Jeanne “Nean” Tucker

Margaret Jeanne Tucker, affectionately known by her family as Nean, 84, Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, formerly of Winona Lake and Warsaw, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at Peabody Retirement, North Manchester.

She came into this world with her twin sister, Martha Jane on April 9, 1938, in Warsaw, to Margaret Alice (Towns) Tucker and Chauncey Constant Tucker. Nean was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. She was raised in Claypool and graduated with her friends from Claypool High School in 1956. She studied for a year at Grace College in Winona Lake.

Nean enjoyed watching sports, walking and bicycling, going out to eat and spending time with friends. She was a longtime member of Claypool United Methodist Church, and she also attended Winona Lake Free Methodist Church. Nean enjoyed serving her church in many ways including playing the piano. She loved music, and also enjoyed sharing her piano talents at Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake when she was a resident there. Nean was a devoted worker having spent many years with the Free Methodist Headquarters and working at Light and Life Book Store. She loved her family very much and walked closely with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She leaves behind her sister-in-law, Elaine Tucker, Florida; nephews, Matthew (Lori) Brubaker, Warsaw, Mark (Bev) Brubaker, Claypool and Kurt (Vaylene) Tucker, Florida; nieces, Lesa (Jim) Coplen, Fort Wayne and Krista (Scott) Hall, Florida; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Arnold Tucker; brother, Jan L. Tucker; twin sister, Martha “Jane” Brubaker; and her brother-in-law, Larry J. Brubaker.

Margaret’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at a later date at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Devon S. Dunnuck

Devon S. Dunnuck, 85, of Akron and the Claypool area, died at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at The Waters of Wabash East.

Devon was born Nov. 10, 1937, in Warsaw, to the late Donald and Gladys (Snyder) Dunnuck. He married on July 2, 1955, in Tippecanoe, to Patricia Ann Lozier; she preceded him in death on June 5, 1994.

He was a 1955 graduate of Tippecanoe High School. He was owner/operator of Devon Dunnuck & Sons Trucking Company, retiring after over 40 years. He met Marilyn Stafford, and they spent 12 years together. They enjoyed going on day trips to the area casinos. In years past, he enjoyed socializing and drinking coffee with friends.

He is survived by his sons, Michael (Mary) Dunnuck, Warsaw and Rob (Becky) Dunnuck, Akron; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister Geneal Ecker, Plymouth; and his longtime companion, Marilyn Stafford.

Devon was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Lee Allen and Gene Dunnuck; a brother, Charles Dunnuck; and sisters, Evelyn Sechrist and Deloris Blackford.

The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Luke Vasicek officiating.

The interment will take place following the service in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, next to his wife Pat.

Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.

Genova Jennings, 86, Wabash, died at 2:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at Parkview Wabash Hospital.

She was born Sept. 5, 1936.

Genova married Kenneth Lee Garrard Sr. on Feb. 14, 1959; he died May 26, 1978. She then married Joseph Jennings, and he died July 9, 1981.

She is survived by four children, James Darold (Barbara A.) Garrard, Roann, Kenneth “Lee” (Dawn) Garrard, Pierceton, Bradley (Arlana) Garrard, Wakarusa and Trudy Baker, Lafayette; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah Hartley, Huntington; and her brother, Mark Dials, Warsaw.

Robin R. Garrard

Robin R. Garrard, 58, Sidney, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Robin was born March 4, 1964, in Warsaw, the daughter of Roger L. Boocher and Avadean “Deana” (Allen) Morrison.

Robin was a 1982 graduate of Whitko High School and a lifetime resident of the Warsaw area. She retired from Zimmer with 26 years of service. Robin loved camping at the Pierceton Jellystone Campground Resort. She also enjoyed fishing, music and attending concerts. Robin loved her family and cherished the time that she spent with them. She attended the Free Will Baptist and Nazarene Church.

Robin will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kristin (Jesse) Martinez, Claypool; her mother Deana Morrison, Warsaw; siblings Brian (Rita) Boocher, Warsaw, Leigh (Chris) Antwright, Tampa Bay, Fla. and Duane (Linda) Morrison, San Diego, Calif.; and her four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Morrison and Roger Boocher.

Royse M. Engle, 92, Winona Lake, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at Grace Village in Winona Lake.

Royse was born Jan. 20, 1931.

On April 7, 1952, Royse married Earline (Richardson) Engle. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children; Timothy (Lorraine) Engle, Columbus, Ohio, Debra (Terry) Runkle, Peru, Steve Engle, Winona Lake and Terry (Debra) Engle, Claypool; brother, Max (Barbara) Engle, Warsaw; sister, Nancy Kleeman, Warsaw; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Carla G. Dutchess 97, North Manchester, formerly of Rochester, died at 12:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.

She was born Aug. 16, 1925.

She married Lloyd A. Dutchess on July 23, 1966. He preceded her in death.

Shawn A. Collins, 35, Warsaw, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at Stillwater Hospice, Fort Wayne.

Shawn was born Dec. 18, 1987, in Warsaw, the son of Richard Collins and Rita Ann Roberts.

Shawn loved spending time with his kids and his fiancé Tiffany. He enjoyed making people laugh and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music and watching horror movies.

Shawn will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kyler Surface, Claypool, Alexus and Gabriela, Micah, Warsaw, Kaydence and Shawn Jr., Kentucky; fiancé Tiffany Marroquin, Warsaw; brothers, Brian (Tammy) Eugene Coon, Warsaw and Chandler Collins; sister, Martha Collins; stepfather, Jeff Trump, Warsaw; nephew, Anthony, Warsaw; several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly ;and his dog, Letty. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita Roberts; grandparents, Jim and Deloris Roberts and William and Mary Martha Collins; and uncle, Chuck Roberts.

Billy J. Thompson

Billy J. Thompson, 69, rural Claypool, died at 11:08 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at Parkview Randallia Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Billy was born April 23, 1953, in Warsaw, to Earl and Ruby (Alderfer) Thompson. He married on July 16, 1999, in rural Claypool, to LaDonna Meyer O’Dell; she survives. They spent 41 years together and 24 years of marriage.

He was a 1971 graduate of Mentone High School. Billy worked for 30 years for Producers Marketing Associates, which later became known as Indiana Livestock Exchange, of Mentone. He also worked for over 35 years for Evans Auction Service and Metzger Property Services. He loved Indiana University sports and the Chicago Cubs as well as anything John Deere.

He is survived by his wife, LaDonna Thompson, Claypool; parents, Earl and Ruby Thompson, Claypool; stepson, Shawn (Sharon) O’Dell, Danville, Ky.; grandchildren, Gage O’Dell and Cassie (Jake) Bieszczak, both of Danville, Ky.; a sister, Peg Bailey, Bloomington; sister-in-law, Betty Thompson, Mentone; and several nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Billy was preceded in death by his brother, Duane Thompson.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date.

Mary Kendrick, 84, Claypool, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, in her residence in Claypool.

Mary A. Kendrick, 84, a longtime resident of Kosciusko County, died Feb. 17, 2023.

Born May 28, 1938, outside of Prestonsburg, Ky., Mary was the daughter of William and Pearlie (Prater) Hall. She spent much of her youth and her early adult life in the Prestonsburg area, moving to Indiana in the late 60s. She was married to Carl Kendrick in Laketon on Dec.15, 1969; Carl survives.

A woman who knew most everybody, Mary was easy to talk with and made friends easily. She had a servant’s heart and helped others whenever she could. She was a longtime member of God’s Highway to Heaven and founding member of Early Apostolic Training Center where she also served as deacon. She liked garage sales and finding bargains at Goodwill. She was a collector of both thimbles and marbles. More than anything, Mary loved her family and the Lord.

Those who survive with memories to cherish include her children, James (Henrietta) Pennington, Prestonsburg, Ky., Wayne (Pam) Pennington, Prestonsburg, Ky., Millard (Lynn) Pennington, Prestonsburg, Ky., Maudie (Doug) Elliott, Claypool, Greg Pennington, Warsaw and Carl (Tammy) Kendrick, Claypool; and siblings, Frank (Mary) Hall, Palestine and Noama Wagner, Pierceton; and grandchildren, Michael, Misty, Tasha, Robin, Tavis, Heather, Kason, Autumn, Travis, Sarah, Tyler and Shay. She is also survived by her husband, Carl Kendrick; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Tavis Pennington; daughter, Kellie Warner; four brothers; and a sister.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1947, in Marion.

He is survived by his sons: Heath (Janell) Jones, Mentone; and Benjamin (fiancée Fawn) Jones, Warsaw; four grandchildren; sisters: Janetta Blakely, Marion; and Diana (Bill) McBride, Bluffton; and a brother: Phil (Pam) Jones, Florida.

Richard Wayne Jones, 75, of rural Claypool, (Beaver Dam Lake) passed Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at his residence.

Richard was born on Dec. 6, 1947 in Marion, to the late K. Wayne and Marilyn (Hodge) Jones. He was a graduate of Warren High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician on an aircraft carrier. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #49 of Warsaw.

He was a tool and die maker around the Warsaw area. Richard was a dedicated father and grandfather. Golf was his passion, especially at Rozella, and he loved being outdoors.

He is survived by his sons Heath and wife Janell Jones of Mentone and Benjamin Jones and fiancé Fawn of Warsaw; grandchildren Jillian, Jacelyn, Katerina, and Loriana; sisters Janetta Blakely of Marion and Diana and Bill McBride of Bluffton; and a brother Phil and wife Pam Jones of Florida.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at King Memorial Home, Mentone. The funeral service will take place following the visitation at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The interment will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2, in the Jones Cemetery, Warren, next to his parents. Graveside military honors will be performed.

John Deaton

John N. Deaton, 74, of Claypool, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at his home.

John was born Oct. 6, 1948, in Warsaw, the son of the late Max G. and Lena Mae (Pollock) Deaton. He was united in marriage to Janet Weber on Dec. 29, 1973, in West Lafayette.

He retired as a journeyman printer for R.R. Donnelley Printing Co.. John enjoyed farming, collecting baseball cards, coins, and he especially cherished the time he spent with his grandkids and family. He attended Manchester College, and he proudly served his country as a member of the Indiana National Guard.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Janet Deaton of Claypool; daughter, Angela (Eric) Jungbauer of Providence, Utah; grandchildren, Jaclyn and Mary Jungbauer; brother, Jerry (JoEllen) Deaton of Warsaw; sister, Jaynn Stoops of Warsaw; and three nephews.

Wilma Richardson, age 84, of Claypool, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital, Warsaw.

Wilma was born March 1, 1939, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to the late Edward “Eddie” Yates and Elzira (Marshall) Yates. She was united in marriage to William “Bev” Richardson, and they shared 60 years together prior to his passing.

Wilma was a retired bus driver for the Warsaw schools for the handicapped. She enjoyed shopping, especially at the shops in Shipshewana. She was involved in the Halloween Cookouts, enjoyed traveling and camping, and she cherished the gatherings with her family and friends. Wilma’s favorite car was the Cadillac, and her favorite type of music was the old Kentucky country music. She was a member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge 1423.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy (George) Shepherd, Claypool; sister, Phyllis (Gary) Beane, Rochester; brother, William “Bub” (Judy) Yates, Palestine; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and 20 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, “Bev,” she was preceded in death by two sons, Tim and Rob Richardson; three brothers, Ronnie Yates, Willard Yates and Terry Yates; and a sister, Thelma Black.

A celebration of Wilma’s life will be held at a later date.

Sharon C. Engelschjon, 77, of Warsaw, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, after an extended illness.

Sharon was born March 26, 1946, in Warsaw, the daughter of (the late) Eugene W. and Marjorie E. (Metzger) Cauffman.

Sharon proudly served her country as a nurse in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. She had the privilege of taking the Honor Flight. She continued her nursing career at the Bowen Center, Warsaw. Sharon enjoyed cross stitch and was a skilled seamstress. She especially took immense joy in sewing clothes for her family. She was an active member of the Claypool United Methodist Church.

Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Tara E. Still, of Wabash, and Denise Engelschjon, of San Diego; sisters, Peggy (John) Shively, of Claypool, and Joyce (Robert) Whittlesey, of Guthrie, Ky.; and grandchildren, Brieanne, Kaitlynn, Abigail, Chloe, Audrey and Brooklyn.

A visitation with family and friends will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Claypool United Methodist Church, 302 E. Section St., Claypool. Jennifer Marie Dawson (“Jenny”) was the most loving mother, sister, friend and grandmother who went above and beyond for the people she cared about — just ask her sons. She sadly left this world to join her family in Heaven at 6:23 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born to Albert Grow and Dorothy McGinnis on June 11, 1959. After she graduated high school, she met her husband, James Dawson (“Mike”), and had two beautiful sons, James Dawson and Mitchell Dawson, and also had a beautiful granddaughter, Haley Dawson. She loved her family with everything in her and would give the world to them if she could.

Jennifer loved spending time in her garden, planting flowers, and putting up decorations that she got from going to auctions. One thing that everyone knows is that she loved making her fairy gardens and dressing up her geese to show her friends on Facebook. She was one of the hardest workers there was; she worked many years in a manufacturing position as a gel coater. She was also an inspector at Gulf Stream and then went to lSC as a material handler. In September 2022, Jennifer returned as an inspector to Gulf Stream, where she ended her career.

Jennifer was a lifetime member of Abate of Indiana Region 1. She loved riding motorcycles with her family; she loved canoeing down the river or being out on her boat with her husband and granddaughter. She cared about her community and enjoyed doing highway cleanups or helping with Treasures for Kids.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband, James Michael Dawson; her sons, James (Tiffany) Dawson, of Pierceton, and Mitchell (Jennifer) Dawson, of Warsaw; and her granddaughter, Haley Dawson; two grandsons; another granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; and a great-grandson. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews, and many more great-nieces and great-nephews.

Titus Funeral Home is entrusted with Jennifer’s care. Family and friends may gather from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, April 26, at the funeral home, 2000 Sheridan St., Warsaw. Burial will immediately follow at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool.
